Midstate Manufacturing Facility Overview

About Midstate Manufacturing

Midstate utilizes the most modern technology and manufacturing equipment available to provide our customers with quality products, on-time delivery, and competitive pricing.

Midstate supplies a diverse range of customers across the United States and globally involved in engine and industrial product manufacturing, foundry, agriculture, machine repair, off-highway equipment, food processing, marine, and power generation with parts which meet their specifications and standards.

Since Midstate opened its doors in 1977, it has invested millions of dollars to maintain a modern, efficient, 150,000 square foot facility. Midstate's ongoing, company-wide modernization plan continues to improve processes while reducing overall costs. The success of this plan results in reduced manufacturing process times, higher quality, reduced in-process inventory, and increased return on investments.

Modern technologies allow the production of superior quality products at competitive costs, while maintaining the flexibility to respond to customer needs in a rapidly changing marketplace. The use of integrated manufacturing software assists with managing our business from quoting to shipping. Bar coding allows real-time tracking of operations, scheduling and inventories—both finished goods and raw materials. Web-based and EDI communication further enhance our customer support services.

Manufacturing Capabilities

Midstate Manufacturing offers a broad spectrum of manufacturing processes, allowing us to support complex projects from raw material to finished product.

Laser Cutting

Midstate Manufacturing's lasers cut to precision tolerances. Our technicians use five lasers including Trumpf #3030-2600 watt, Trumpf #4030-3000 watt, and three Trumpf L6030 3000 watt units with pallet changers. Sheet size capacity is up to 240" long x 84" wide.

We can laser material as thin as 0.005", or as heavy as ¾" steel plate, ¼" aluminum, ¼" brass or muntz metal, and ½" stainless steel. High-pressure gases produce sharp, clean edges that maintain close tolerances and high quality.

Torch Cutting

Torch cutting of plate, structural, and tubing materials is another alternative to our laser process. Oxy/Acetylene cutting utilizes three and seven head CNC controlled heads with 6-inch plate capacity.

Waterjet Cutting

Midstate's water jet can process all types of ferrous and non-ferrous materials such as plastics, rubber, aluminum, copper, brass, fiberglass insulation, sound attenuation foam and plastic. Sizes range from film to 6-inch materials and more.

Sheet Metal Fabrication

Sheet metal fabrication is a key area of Midstate Manufacturing. Brake presses and turret punches are CNC controlled, providing accuracy to the newest stringent tolerance parts. Shears and sheet rollers add to our processing capability.

Parts range from 22 gauge to ¾" thick and up to 14 feet long, including all grades and types of material. Rolling capabilities include parts up to 1¼" thick and 10" wide. Midstate maintains the ability to form metal of all sizes, large or small.

Welding

Midstate Manufacturing has distinguished itself as a leader in adapting new technologies and innovative thinking to provide world-class workmanship. MIG, TIG, Stick, Robot, and Spot-welding processes are used to timely fabricate products while maintaining the quality customers expect, without driving costs up.

Machining

Midstate's machine shop capacity is second to none. No part is too large or small. Lathes can accommodate parts up to 21 feet long and 36" diameter. Horizontal mills and vertical boring machines up to 12 feet diameter and 7 feet high are used to machine railroad and heavy machinery repair components.

CNC controlled machining centers machine intricate parts of the highest quality. Machining by our skilled machinists will turn your prints into parts with exact precision.

Balancing

In 2004 Midstate acquired a balancing machine from Dynamics Research. Since then we have helped many customers balance drive shafts, sifting barrels, and machine drive shafts.

Balance is achieved by rotating the part and using computer readouts to know where to apply weight by welding or other means.

Powder Coat & Paint

The coating facility provides Midstate customers with full-range service. Our facility combines powder coating and painting operations, providing a one-stop-shop from raw materials to finished part.

Powder coating processes a wide range of part sizes with continuous and batch operation, variable line speeds, and 500-pound-per-hook weight capacity. Pre-treatment operations such as steel shot wheel-abrating and sand blasting are incorporated before and after manufacturing processes. A five-stage wash system, air knife, and dry-off oven assure parts are clean and ready for finishing.

Midstate's down draft wet paint booth (53'L x 24'W x 20'H) complements powder coating operations. Spray methods include electrostatic air assist, airless, and HVLP.

Engine Packages

Midstate is a supplier of engine packages for off-highway applications ranging from OEM, industrial, petroleum, railroad, marine, and agricultural markets. We are a Caterpillar Industrial and Agricultural Engine OEM. Our turnkey engine package modules are designed in collaboration with the OEM and end user to meet the specifications and requirements of each application.

Whether you need a new product prototype, an engine emissions tier upgrade, or repower, Midstate can provide a solution to your engine package needs.

Enclosures

Enclosures are an integral part of an engine package. Midstate specializes in enclosures for the industrial engine, air compressor, irrigation, and EPG rental markets in sound attenuated, base frame mounted, or drop over styles. We set the standard with single piece roofs up to 20 ft. long for superior quality and aesthetics, and have supplied enclosures as large as 60 ft. long, 14 ft. wide, and 12 ft. tall.

We stock enclosures for several 200 HP and below engines. Enclosures can be assembled with the engine package or shipped in knock-down parts kit form. Materials include steel, galvannealed, aluminum, or stainless, finished in Midstate's in-house powder coating and wet paint facilities.

Engine Controls

Midstate's Engine Control Systems are user-friendly to install, operate, and service. Turnkey systems include control panels, wiring harnesses, control devices, and hardware. Mechanical and electronic J1939 systems match engine control logic.

All custom panels are OEM specific. OEM interface, PTO/clutch, pump drive, pump controls, pneumatics, and remote functions or monitoring are integrated into the control system. Panels can be installed on the package or sent as parts kits. All installed systems are tested with the engine package; ship-loose controls are 100% bench tested.

Wiring harnesses feature sonic welded splices, nylon external braided loom, permanently continuous ink stamped numbers, and shrink tube covered terminals. Deutsch, Amp, and HP connectors assure safe, secure, and watertight interconnects. Harnesses are available in lengths up to 75 ft. long.

Panel parts are supported by global suppliers such as Caterpillar, F. W. Murphy, and Datcon. Gauge plates and enclosures are powder coated for superior finish and corrosion protection. Press-to-test circuit breakers are utilized.
